Upper School Virtual Learning Plan

Upper School Virtual Learning Daily Schedule

Synchronous Class Meeting Days, Tuesday Through Friday
Tuesday and Thursday are A–B–C–D days. 
Wednesday and Friday are E–F–G–H days.
Monday is used for studying, reading, individual check-ins and long-term assignments.

7:55–8:10 a.m.

8:25–9:35 a.m. First Period
9:35–9:50 a.m. Transition (In-Person) / Break (Virtual)
9:50–11 a.m. Second Period
11–11:15 a.m. Transition (In-Person) / Break (Virtual)
11:15–11:45 a.m. Lunch
11:45 a.m.–12 p.m. Transition (In-Person) / Break (Virtual)
12–1:10 p.m. Third Period
1:10–1:25 p.m. Transition (In-Person) / Break (Virtual)
1:25–2:35 p.m. Fourth Period
2:35–3 p.m.
  • Teacher Office Hours, daily
  • Asynchronous Work Time
  • Virtual Social Meetings, as scheduled
  • Virtual Athletic Team Meetings, as scheduled

 

Upper School Expectations

Teacher Expectations

  • Post the weekly plan for each class by Monday at 7:00 p.m. Post all assignments for the day in Google Classroom by 8:00 a.m. that morning. Teachers also have the option of using Google Classroom to post assignments.
  • Maintain office hours Monday through Friday from 2:35 to 3:00 p.m. 
  • Respond to student and parent emails within 24 hours. 
  • Coordinate with school counselors as needed.
  • Use synchronous class meetings as part of your class schedule.
  • Begin each class with prayer.
  • Evaluate student learning, when possible, with smaller, self-paced assessments. Synchronous tests are not required or preferred.
  • Make larger projects, essays, papers, etc. due on the appropriate week on a synchronous teaching day.
  • Give timely feedback on student work.
  • Show flexibility with students and parents. 
  • Model a growth mindset, risk-taking and vulnerability.
  • Balance on- and off-screen time for students.
  • Gather feedback from students and make adjustments accordingly.
  • Provide clear instructions on every assignment concerning acceptable help or resource use to help students abide by the Bay View Academic Honor Code.

Parent Expectations

  • Help establish a dedicated learning space in the home that is quiet and provides efficient access to materials and to the internet.
  • Help develop a daily routine or schedule that includes breaks from digital tools and services as well as proper sleep and exercise.
  • Talk with your daughter about her work, encourage her to focus on her learning and remind her of her obligations under the Bay View Academic Honor Code.
  • Contact teachers and school counselor with any concerns. 
  • Contact Carolyn Donahue if your daughter will be absent from classes.
  • Check in on the SIS to stay informed about your daughter’s assignments and grades.

Student Expectations

  • Establish daily routines for engaging in learning.
  • Identify a comfortable, quiet space in your home where you can work effectively and successfully.
  • Check email and Rediker daily for announcements, assignments and communication from your teachers.
  • Students are responsible for clarifying with the teacher what help or resources they may use on any given assignment. Remember all academic work and interactions remain governed by the Bay View Academic Honor Code.
  • Practice Bay View’s Etiquette for Virtual Learning.
  • Do your best to meet timelines, commitments and due dates.
  • Communicate proactively with your teachers if you have questions, are unable to meet deadlines, or if you need additional support.

Late Work Protocol

Students need to contact their teachers if they will not be able to complete their assignments. Uncompleted assignments for a class and no communication from a student or parent will result in communications from the teacher within in the following time frame:

  • 24 hours — email to student 
  • 48 hours — email to student and her school counselor
  • 72 hours — email to student, her school counselor and her parents/guardians
  • 96 hours — email to student, her school counselor, her parents/guardians and Ce Pate
