Dear Bay View Players Alumnae,

Happy 38th annual Manhattan at the Bay weekend! We miss you and look forward to being together soon!

We are inviting you to join our virtual alumnae choir. Bay View singers from around the world are now able to record and upload performances of themselves onto The Bay View Virtual Choir website through April 9th.

Your performance will be synced and blended together with fellow alumnae performers, and the final videos will be streamed on our virtual reunion weekend.

If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Grattan ’11 at

  • Practice your part by singing along with the accompaniment track. You’ll need to get a feel for the tempo and become familiar with the arrangement.
  • Choose a good place to do your recording:

    • Do not set up in front of a window - have a wall behind you, if possible.

    • Make sure you have good lighting. The light should be in front of you, not behind you, and preferably overhead.

    • Try to find a quiet place without any background noise (no dog barking, TV playing, dishwasher/washing machine running, etc.)

  • Pick out what you’re going to wear. Be yourself.

  • Record your video horizontally on your iPad or on your computer. Always use headphones to listen to the accompaniment.
    • If you have access to an external microphone, use that.
    • Position your device or microphone to get the best sound and video. Unlike using a mic during cabaret, you don’t want to be too close to the microphone or device.
    • Set up your video to fit in no more than your torso (preferably just your mid-torso up).
  • Do a test run of a few lines of the song. Review the results:
    • Does your voice sound balanced? Make sure it's not too loud, distorted, or soft.
    • How’s the lighting? Too dark? Too light?
    • Did you film at a good angle? Does your face look natural? Your
iPad/computer shouldn’t be filming you from below or looking down.
  • If the test recording is to your liking, record the whole song.
  • Have fun, relax, and be yourself! Enjoy what you’re doing and let your character shine through.
  • Important Note: Do not play the recording “out loud” - the only sound we should hear on your video recording is your voice singing.
