Library Services

Bay View houses two separate libraries, one for Lower School in St. Joseph Hall and one for Middle and Upper School, the Gribbin Library, in Mercy Hall.

The Lower School Library forms the center of St. Joseph Hall. It is a colorful gathering place dedicated towards fostering a life-long love of reading. Students gather as a community, listen to stories, read, create and stretch their imaginations. The Library also houses the Lower School technology lab.

The Gribbin Middle and Upper School Library is a warm, welcoming environment for students and faculty. Banks of computers are set up throughout the room, and the area is furnished with comfortable couches for relaxing while reading, and tables and chairs for studying and writing. The library/media specialists of the Gribbin Middle/Upper School Library help students become effective and efficient users of the information found in books and online. Using a systematic approach, students learn how to locate, use and evaluate information from both print and electronic sources.

The Gribbin Library offers a balanced collection of fiction and nonfiction materials. Students have access - both in school and from home - to several online databases that include thousands of e-books. Bay View’s membership in a state consortium of over 100 libraries gives our students the convenience of searching a state-wide card catalog to locate and borrow materials across Rhode Island. Books that are requested are delivered to Bay View free of charge. In addition, the Library has all manner of reading material to support the Middle School accelerated reader program.
