Educating and empowering young women since 1874

Letter From Our Lower School Principal

Dear Prospective Families,

Welcome to the St. Mary Academy - Bay View Lower School! For 145 years, St. Mary Academy Bay View has been educating girls and young women, providing an all-girls education inspired by Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy. Our commitment to empower each student to be a confident, compassionate, independent, and socially conscious young girl and woman, is rooted in the Gospel and exemplified through the Catholic faith and the Mercy charism.

Our students are inquisitive, curious, and faith-filled stewards of Mercy. We appreciate the individual. Our community recognizes the gifts and talents of each and every student, resulting in enthusiastic learners who are independent, self-aware and resilient. You will encounter scientists, artists, writers, mathematicians, musicians, and more in the Lower School. Our girls are ready to take on the challenges of a global world and are equipped to find their voices and to learn how to use them at a young age. They are encouraged to speak their minds, without interruption, and use those voices, first in the classroom, and then beyond, ready to serve a vulnerable world.

We are committed to developing the whole person right from the very first school experience. The Bay View community is centered on the charism, core values, and traditions of Mercy. While researching our website, I hope you feel the warmth and sense of family among the pages. We offer so much in a large academy, but provide the safety and nurturing aspects of a small school. Welcome to the St. Mary Academy - Bay View Lower School!

Many blessings,

Margaret Cummings
Lower School Principal
