Second Grade

Second grade is a time for our students to grow into more independent, creative, and sophisticated learners. In second grade, students graduate to a more rigorous learning environment then they initially encountered in first grade and are able to further deepen and expand their skills and knowledge. Students have one-to-one correspondence with the iPads. They become more experienced writers, readers and mathematicians as they practice these skills in more complex and comprehensive ways. Longer and more involved books are read, longer and more complex pieces are written, and more underlying math concepts are studies. In addition, second graders begin to develop critical thinking skills and create individual and group projects to share and present what they have learned through writing, speaking, and art. At this age, the girls really begin to take ownership of their learning experiences, and they take great pride in their projects, reports and other masterpieces! The second graders continue to grow in their friendships with each other and with their relationship with God as they deepen their understanding of their role in our faith-filled community!
