Grade 4

Course description: In the fourth grade language arts program, students will read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts which will strengthen the development of their decoding, comprehension, analytical, and critical thinking skills. A wide variety of genres, including drama, poetry, literary, and informational texts will be read. Individual AR goals will be assigned to support the reading of self selected materials. The communication skills of writing, listening, and speaking, across all content areas, will also be emphasized. Students will conduct short research projects in which they gather facts from a variety of sources in order to create evidence-based essays or multimedia presentations which show signs of analysis and reflection. All curriculum is aligned with the Common Core Standards.

Course description: Each of the 18 units of the vocabulary workshop contains 12 words. Each unit features direct instruction essential to help students learn words that are not part of their everyday vocabulary. Students must know the spelling, definition, synonyms, and antonyms of each word for the assessment test.

Course description: The social studies curriculum is designed to promote awareness of the different regions of the United States. Students will continue their two-year study (third and fourth grade) of the United States States and its regions. They will study the geography, history, economics, government, and culture of all the 50 states. Through this study, students will have a better understanding of the United States before learning about its history in fifth grade. 

Course description: The fourth grade math program offers the flexibility of print, digital, or blended instruction. It provides the focus, coherence, and rigor needed to meet our standards. Project-based learning, visual learning strategies, and extensive customization options empower every student.

Course description: Grade 4 uses the Interactive Science science curriculum for Grades 3-5 students. Lessons engage students in science inquiry, STEM activities, and problem-based, hands-on learning. Blended print and digital experiences engage students and support Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*. Interactive Science includes strong literacy connections for elementary learners. High-quality science resources, strategies, and guidance help teachers awaken students’ sense of curiosity as they learn about science.

Course description: Students gather in prayer at the beginning of every lesson and focus on their life as they begin each day’s lesson. Each chapter presents the truths of the Catholic faith found in sacred scripture and traditions. To present the content of faith in ways that are age-appropriate, students are called to live out their discipleship among their peers, their families, and their school through prayer, song, and actions. 

Course description: In music class, the students will participate in vocal activities. They will spend one class per week learning songs and developing music theory skills. The girls will also learn to play the recorder - a beginner instrument that provides a strong foundation in instrumental performance.
