After School Program

Overview

Our After School Program offers a safe, nurturing environment that fosters curiosity and creativity in our Lower School children after the school day ends. For the convenience of our families, childcare is also available on select professional days when classes are not in session. Girls enjoy playground time, receive a healthy snack, and homework assistance.

In addition, Bay View is proud to offer many after school clubs and activities for our Lower School students. From after school yoga, violin, and art, Bay View girls have plenty of opportunities for enrichment and good fun with their classmates.

Schedule

The After School Program begins at 2:35 PM and closes at 5:30 PM. Pickup before 3:00 PM will be in the Lower School Cafeteria; available through the courtyard door. Pickup after 3:00 PM will be in the playground weather permitting, or in the After School Room; available through the front of St. Joseph Hall. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Ms. Janine Musto, After School Care Director.

Hands-on Art History

This series of After School Art History Classes features a hands-on project designed to highlight what the student has learned and allow her to express her own creativity. The projects are designed to meet each student’s ability. She will also work on a journal to bring home after the last session to share with her family. The class is open to students in kindergarten through Grade 5, and is taught by Mrs. Ruth Flanigan, St. Mary Academy - Bay View Lower School Art teacher.

Violin Lessons

Overview:
Group lessons are an affordable, fun and a great way to learn an instrument with friends! After a fun and successful Christmas Concert and fall semester, we are back for our spring session.

For beginner violinists, we will continue the year with simplified note reading, posture, pizzicato (plucking) and preparing for our Spring Concert by learning songs like Lightly Row, Allegro, and more!

Returning students will continue working on their own solo concertos as well as duet, trio, and quartet repertoire! We will also be covering third position shifting, vibrato, and working on more complex techniques!

Schedule and Cost:
Students will receive a snack at 2:30 PM in the After School Program. They will be brought to the Performing Arts Room in St. Joseph’s Hall. Classes will run from January 28th to April 8th. There will be no class during February break and our Spring Concert date will be held the evening of our last class at
6:00 PM in Mercy Hall.

Returning kindergarten and beginner students from the fall session in Grades 1 through 5, will attend class from 2:35 to 3:15 PM. The full cost for the spring semester will be $150 (10 classes at $15.00 per class).

If a beginner student is progressing quickly, they may be asked to join the returning student class which will be communicated with parents.

Returning students in Grades 1 through 5 will attend class from 2:35 to 3:45 PM. The full cost for the spring semester will be $250 (10 classes at $25.00 per class). Returning students also have the option of exchanging existing instruments for a larger size if necessary.

All payments can be made through the After School Program. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Bethany Sousa Rachdouni with any questions or concerns at 401-529-5478.

Friends of Mercy

Sister Patricia Bell originally began the Friends of Mercy program in England, 16 years ago. It has since spread to other parts of the United Kingdom as well as the Philippines, Sierra Leone, and Ireland. And now there are several branches in the U.S., which includes Bay View!

The Friends of Mercy program is offered to our fourth and fifth grade students. It promotes personal development of a spiritual and social nature combined with the values of our Mercy tradition.
