'Tis the season of giving and giving back.
This October, the Lower School participated in a service project called the Box of Joy. The Box of Joy program is a Christmas gift outreach organized by local Catholic schools, parishes, through Cross Catholic Outreach. By packing boxes of joy with toys and other small gifts, our students helped bless many children suffering from extreme poverty by sharing the joy of Christmas and planting seeds of hope.
Each class was assigned a gender and age range for children they would like to bless, and students were encouraged to bring in spare change and make personal contributions. In total, 29 boxes full of toys and supplies were collected in addition to $1,064.20 raised by students.
"I am so proud of our students and the display of Mercy charism and concern," exclaimed Margaret Cummings, Principal of Bay View's Lower School. "We can ensure that these children are not deprived of Christmas blessings this year and that every child may have the opportunity to experience this joy."
