Community and School

St. Mary Academy-Bay View is a Catholic college preparatory school founded by the Religious Sisters of Mercy in 1874.  The campus is located in Riverside, Rhode Island, five miles east of the state Capitol building.  The enrollment of the school is 697 young women in grades pre-kindergarten (three and four year-olds) through twelve.  Middle and Upper school students are selected on the basis of a rigorous entrance examination (STS School Placement Exam) as well as superior academic achievement.  Students are drawn from cities and towns throughout Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts and Northeastern Connecticut.  St. Mary Academy-Bay View welcomes ethnic, cultural and religious diversity.  The academy enrolls international students from China, Korea and Japan.  These students live with Bay View host families as well as in a dormitory setting in Providence.
