Varsity Volleyball vs. Classical High School
  W
3 - 0

"The Bengals went on the road for the second consecutive time; this time, to the Purple Pit of Classical for their senior night and the last game for the season for both teams.
The Purple always bring energy and a toughness when they take the court; especially, at home in one of the loudest gyms in the state, and tonight was no different.
In the 1st set, we were playing even or one or two points up or down until we took a 20-18 lead with a kill by Haley LeComte and service ace from Gianna Tobojka.  From that point, we closed out the set 25-20 with an ace from Jenna Costantino and kills from Haley LeComte and Danielle Pulvie.
Not wanting past history to repeat itself when we took the 1st set at home and then lost the next three, we were a determined team not to take the second set lightly and doubled down to GRIT out a victory.
With a 10-7 Bengal lead, the Purple’s #7 served up 4 aces and a kill by #21 gave them a 14-11 lead after we sided-out.  However, we had an answer when Emily Machado served up 2 aces and some Purple hitting errors neutralized the momentum shift, only to be down 14-15.  Play went back and forth; then we were tied at 23-23 after a Haley LeComte ace.  As Classical’s #7 came to the service line where earlier we gave up 5 points in that rotation, Carolyn Caldwell came up with a key kill to give us set point.  When Emily Machado served for game point, it looked like we had it when a Classical shot was going deep but it apparently caught the back line for the tying point.  Then Classical took the lead and had game point when #11 scored.  The Bengals then called a timeout their momentum and to keep calm in the pressure situation.  It helped as we attacked the ball in play and the Purple erred on their counter-attack; thereby, sending Carolyn Caldwell to serve.  Her composure and consistency serving has been stellar and this time was no different.  A serve and a hitting error twice by Classical sealed the 2nd set victory.
Again, the girls were reminded that Classical was a team that didn’t quit and would continue to equal our GRIT to gain a victory.
With Bay View down 2-6 by hitting errors and Classical offensive kills, the Bengals responded when Gianna Tobojka served up 3 straight aces before a side-out to bring the score to 5-7.  Chipping away and back and forth play put Bay View down one at 13-14.  Then Alexa Brooks-Major took over at net with 2 kills and 2 blocks for a 17-16 lead which was never given back.  Moreover, when Danielle Pulvie recorded her 7th kill of the match that gave the Bengals a 2 point separation lead at 23-21, all we had to do at that point was to side-out to close out the match.  Fortunately, with our ball control and Classical hitting errors, it was the winning formula for a 25-21 win and a straight 3 set match victory.
This victory culminate the season with 4 straight victories to finalize the Bay View record at 5-13.  Three of the four victories were against playoff teams in our Northern Division.  As were spoke about in today’s pre-game, we needed to be focused to finish through the finish-line and to press-on past the finish-line and into what lies ahead in life.  We certainly went through the finish-line; it is my prayer that we continue to press-on past it with the GRIT that had us playing as a TEAM with the E.A.T. to Win expectation that defined the program’s success.

Varsity Volleyball vs. East Providence High School
  W 3 - 2

"The Bengals entered the house of the Townies, cross-town rivals, to continue its winning streak against playoff teams.
The 1st set was close with the Bengals losing 25-20.  With 2nd set adjustments of better ball control, Bay View was able to control the game tempo and settle in with their style of play.  After a full rotation of serves, the set was notched at 11-11 and Bay View continued to apply pressure with consistent setting from Emily Machado to her middle-hitters, Alexa Brooks-Major and Carolyn Caldwell, to take the set with a 25-21 victory.  Now, with the momentum going into the 3rd set, Bay View commanded a 12-8 lead until the Townies took to the service line and saw our serve reception breakdown along with some hitting errors that allowed them to reeled off 11 points and a momentum shift that was too much and too late to overcome as the Townies closed out the set with a 25-15 victory.
Going into the 4th set the team was still calm and confident that we would settle back into a good ball control game. However, the Townies had other plans.  Again, they ripped off 9 early points to go ahead 10-1.  Fortunately, the Bengals began to neutralize the Townie momentum by siding out evenly, but with the score at 16-9 in favor of the Townies. Then we began to take back the momentum and forced the Townies into a time out at 16-10.  However, Bay View continued to close the gap through pressure play, only to be down16-18 before Haley LeComte took to the service line and kept the Townies out of system with tough and intelligent serving, added by kills from Danielle Pulvie and Carolyn Caldwell which bolstered the Bengals into a 23-19 lead.  Another kill by Pulvie and an error by East Providence sealed the 4th set victory at 25-20 to force a 5th and deciding game for the match.
When the Townies served into the net the Bengals lead from start to finish to capture the match.  Gianna Tobojka registered an ace and kill which gave the Bengals a 2 point separation at 5-3.  The Townies then knotched the score at 7-7, but blocks by Danielle Pulvie and Carolyn Caldwell pushed the Bengals ahead 9-8.  Again, another tie at 10-10 before Pulvie and Caldwell added a kill and ace, respectively, to go ahead 13-11 where again the Townies tied it up at 13 and forced a Bengal time out.  However, confidence, focus, and energy was high coming out of the time out.  Emily Machado set a beautiful ball in the middle for an Alexa Brooks-Major kill, who then on the next play blocked a Townie attack to give Bay View an exciting victory to register its 3rd consecutive win.
Statistically, the Bengals were led with 9 kills each from Haley LeComte and Alex Brooks-Major.  Meanwhile, Daniell Pulvie, Gianna Tobojka, Carolyn Caldwell and Jenna Costantino had 5, 4, 3, and 1 kill, respectively.  Again, Emily Machado topped the 30 mark in assists with 31.  Alexa Brooks-Major lead the team with 2 blocks and Gianna Tobojka totaled 2 aces."

Varsity Volleyball vs. Cumberland High School
  W 3 - 2

"Last Friday was Senior Night for the Fab 5; Jenna Costantino, Haley LeComte, Danielle Pulvie, Emily Machado, and Gianna Tobojka, as we hosted the Clippers from Cumberland who sat 2nd in Division North.
The Bengals led from start to finish in the 1st set for a 25-23 victory. In the 2nd set, it was much of the same up until 15-15, and then Cumberland charged ahead for a 25-19 win. The 3rd set, again, was back and forth play with Bay View leading 11-10, whereby Cumberland then took a commanding lead 22-15.
However, Gianna Tobojka stepped up to the service line and delivered 3 aces and with kills from Haley LeComte and Alexa Brooks-Major they closed the gap to 1 at 22-23, but more importantly, captured the momentum back and ultimately the victory at 25-23. With tons of momentum and great hopes of defeating Cumberland in the 4th set, the Bengals took commanding leads at 19-12 and 22-17 to eventually fall 25-22 as the tables were reversed from the 3rd set. The 5th and final set was tic for tat to 10-10 in which Carolyn Caldwell chipped in a couple of key kills. Then Bay View continued to apply the pressure with great ball control and savvy play that allowed the offense to register kills by Alexa Brooks-Major and Haley LeComte to give the Bengals the needed separation at 14-12 and bringing Jenna Costantino to the service line for game point which came from a Clipper hitting error that inked the score at 15-12 and a 3-2 match victory. In the victory, which was the second in a row and also a first in the last two years, Danielle Pulvie added 5 kills and 3 aces, while the team was led by Haley LeComte with 11 kills. In all, senior setter Emily Machado eclipsed her previous assist record of 32 by dishing out 33 assists.
Congratulations on a great team effort that the seniors, team, parents, and fans can remember."

Varsity Volleyball vs. LaSalle Academy
  W 3 - 0

"On this Tuesday, Bay View seemed to cross the Rubicon as a team to compete with purpose and pride against a parochial school rival that defines success of a season alone on how this game is played out.  To this end, after we took a three game defeat earlier in the season with a sheepish performance, the Bengals brought a hunger for some Ram and had its own feast of a 3-0 victory this time around.
After calling a time-out for being down 3-8, we settled down and on our ball control and pressure play to take a 13-10 lead with the help of 2 aces from Haley LeComte and a kill each from Carolyn Caldwell and Danielle Pulvie.  Then we bolstered our lead to 19-13 with another 2 aces, but this time from Emily Machado and kills from Pulvie, Brooks-Major, and LeComte.  Finally, we closed out the 1st set 25-19.
Bay View immediately pressured LaSalle by taking a 15-2 lead on the hitting shoulder of Haley LeComte who registered 4 kill in the stretch and added 2 more along the way to a 25-20 2nd set victory.
The 3rd set was a battle through the mid part of the set with play going back and forth at 10-10 until LaSalle gained some separation to take a 15-17 led.  At this point, Alexa Brooks-Major had 5 kills and was a dominate force at the net.  It was now time for the Bengals to press at the throat of the Rams and put them to rest, which was done by 2 blocks from Brooks-Major and a kill from Caldwell and 2 from LeComte for the 25-20 and 3 straight set match victory.
Statistical leaders for Bay View were Haley LeComte 9 kills and 2 aces, Danielle Pulvie 5 kills and 2 aces, Alexa Brooks-Major 7 kills and 2 blocks, Emily Machado 2 aces and a career high of 28 assists, and Jenna Costantino controlled the back-court with a tremendous 25 dig effort.
This match was a milestone in a few ways for the team and 2nd year coach, Paul Amaral.  It was the 1st time in 4 years that the seniors had beaten LaSalle, and the 1st home and straight set win in two years."
