Physical Education

The Physical and Health Education Department of Bay View addresses the needs of the student by focusing on her mind, body and spirit.  The faculty has developed a sequential curriculum that’s taught from Pre-kindergarten through Grade 12.

With over 40 years of combined teaching experience, our teachers have earned both national and state certifications.  We are American Red Cross Certified First Aid and CPR trainers and instructors. The department also includes the services and expertise of a certified athletic trainer.

The Physical and Health Education instructors are committed to teaching skills that encourage life-long fitness and promote healthy choices. Topics covered within the Health Education curriculum create awareness of major health issues and particularly, issues that affect girls and women. Among the topics highlighted are dating violence, eating disorders and bullying. The Physical and Health Education Department provides a safe place that encourages team-building and acceptance of individual differences among people. Numerous opportunities exist within the curriculum for you to recognize and develop your leadership skills.

The Wellness Center, where all classes are held, is a state of the art facility with classroom spaces, a full size gymnasium and a fitness center with treadmills, bicycles, elliptical machines and weight bearing exercise equipment to name a few. Students at Bay View regularly participate in activities such as the President’s Fitness Challenge, Rhode Island Blood Center Blood Drives, Breast Cancer Awareness events and American Red Cross First Aid CPR/AED Certification.
