On July 1, Amanda Abbott (Grade 6) won 1st Place in the 1/2 mile, all ages, open water, swim event at the 8th Annual Race for the Conch Eco Sea Swim on beautiful Grace Bay in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands! Amanda finished 22.7 seconds ahead of the next finishing competitor, the 15 year old winner of the Men's Division.

Trophies were given to the top three finishers in both the Men's and Women's Divisions of each of the three swim events: the 1/2 Mile, the 1 Mile, and the 2.4 Mile. At 11 years old, Amanda was the youngest trophy recipient, and the only female overall winner of the three events, with the best time of both the Men's and Women's Divisions of the 1/2 Mile event. Amanda was interviewed by PTV8, the local TCI television news station and thrilled to receive a locally crafted conch shell trophy.

Amanda's success is featured in the Rehoboth Reporter, on Rehoboth Now, and mentioned in the Turks and Caicos Weekly News. She is also listed as the 1/2 Mile Winner on the Race for the Conch website.
